FAQ

OUR HEALTH GUARANTEE:

After a recent situation with a buyer who disregarded multiple parts of our contract, we want to be perfectly clear about how our health guarantee works and what we expect from all kitten families. We value transparency and fairness – but also mutual responsibility.

✅ Our Health Guarantee DOES Cover:
1. Fatal congenital defects (heart, kidneys, etc.) diagnosed by a licensed vet within 1 year of age.
2. Life threatening genetic diseases confirmed by DNA or necropsy.
3. FeLV/FIV, if tested positive within a short window after purchase (and the kitten was not exposed in your home).

🚫 Our Health Guarantee DOES NOT Cover (all easily treatable and not life-threatening):
1. Upper respiratory infections (URIs) – These are common and often stress-induced when kittens transition to a new home.
2. Intestinal parasites (Giardia, Coccidia, Roundworms, Hookworms) – Even with routine deworming, some parasites can remain dormant or reappear under stress.
3. Ear mites/Ear Infections – Common in all kittens, especially ones with folded ears, even with preventive treatment and also easy to treat.
4. Ringworm – A superficial fungus that can be picked up anywhere and is fully treatable – not life threatening.
5. Fleas or mild skin parasites – Can occur despite preventive measures and may come from the environment, easily treatable with topicals.

Our Promise & Expectations
While our contract does not cover these common, non-serious issues, we do everything possible to prevent them. Kittens are regularly examined, dewormed, and treated as needed before leaving for their new homes. However, even despite our best efforts, issues can occasionally arise.

We will always be available to offer guidance and support if something arises. That said, these conditions are not grounds for a refund, replacement, or public shaming. In the past, we have extended goodwill gestures to buyers when we didn’t have to – but going forward, we will be more reluctant and will only do so at our discretion.

We regret not trusting our instincts during this rehoming that has led us to want to be more strict with enforcing our policies and hesitant with our kindness. While we always strive to give people the benefit of the doubt, this experience has reminded us that our intuition is there for a reason.

Where are you located?

Washington State near the Seattle area, more specifically near Tacoma! We are no longer looking to move in the future, we plan to stay in the greater Seattle area permanently. 🙂

We offer ground deliveries to Oregon and California at least once a year as we have family that we like to visit. We’re also happy to meet people in Vancouver, Canada. For more information on this, please don’t hesitate to email us at britishfolds@gmail.com!

Do we have to pay a deposit?

Yes. Each kitten will require a nonrefundable $500 deposit in order to reserve a kitten and take them off the market. Deposits are not required if the kitten is 3 months of age and already available to go to their new homes. A deposit is still required if they’re of age and you plan to pick them up at a later date. Deposit goes towards the total price of the kitten.

When can we take the kitten home?

This depends entirely on the kitten’s health and development. Occasionally we do make exceptions and may adjust go home dates, but generally they go home anywhere between 12 – 16 weeks. Early exceptions are typically for Christmas or birthdays. We also may hold the kitten longer if we feel the kitten needs more time to heal or develop before going to their new homes. We will always disclose this as soon as we know.

Will we receive update photos after reserving our kitten?

Yes! Once your kitten is reserved, we provide update photos approximately every two weeks so you can watch them grow.

Due to our busy schedules caring for our cats, kittens, work obligations, and daily responsibilities, we are unable to accommodate weekly or additional photo requests. Occasionally we may send extra updates when possible, but bi-weekly updates are the standard minimum.

We appreciate your understanding as we focus our time on providing the best care for our kittens.

Am I able to come see the kitten in person?

We are a closed cattery and do not allow visitors in our home for our family’s safety, but we are willing to meet you near or outside our home. We do take photos and share clips on our social media, which can be found on the front page.

In person kitten viewings are available when they’re about 8+ weeks old. We do offer facetime calls if a buyer wishes to see the kittens prior to 8 weeks. Kittens’ immune systems are weak as they grow and they’re extremely susceptible to diseases prior to 8 weeks of age.

Are your cats health tested?

Yes. Our breeding cats are tested and cleared for FeLV, FIV, heartworms, PKD, and HCM. We perform genetic testing through Optimal Selection which screens for 50+ different health conditions and receive HCM scans via echocardiogram after 1 year of age. They also get dewormed a few times a year.

How much do your cats cost?

Our prices vary per kitten and their features. Here’s a quick base price ranges so you can get an idea (all prices are subject to change):
British Shorthair: $1500 – $2500
British Longhair: $1500 – $2500
Scottish Fold Shorthair/Longhair: $1800 – $2300
Scottish Straight Shorthair: $1400 – $1600
Scottish Straight Longhair: $1400 – $1800
Rarer colors/patterns: $2000 – $3500

We only lower the cost of our kittens when they get older and haven’t yet found a home. We also offer a $200 discount if you get a second kitten from us.

What colors do you guys produce now? In the future?

At the moment we produce various golden shades and are introducing torties, torbies, and bicolors in 2026. We are no longer producing black silver shaded.

We are looking to introduce solids in 2027. This is tentative as we’re still unsure what the future holds at this time. Please reach out to us for more details about colorations and our plans if you’re looking for a specific color.

Do you sell breeding rights?

As of right now we do not. We are open to offering breeding rights in the future if we have a kitten with exceptional qualities. The price of breeding rights are double the price of the kitten.

Do you associate your kittens with other animals?

Yes. Our kittens are associated with people, our dogs, and our other cats daily. We make sure they get used to being held, paws being touched, and being pestered while they’re eating to ensure they are not aggressive.

Do you offer shipping/delivery?

Yes. We offer shipping within the continental US for a flat fee of $500 and you’d pick up at your nearest major airport. We ship to Alaska for a flat fee of $600. We don’t ship to Hawaii.

We also have the option of having someone accompany your pet and deliver straight to your doorstep. This price varies between $800 – $1500 depending on your location and we suggest this option if you aren’t able to come personally.

However, if you’re able to come yourself to get your kitten, that’s the least stressful and preferred method. Driving is better than flying if you had to decide between the two. If you plan to fly in, we’re happy to meet you at SEA-TAC International Airport to drop your kitten off to you and you can fly back the same day.

We also frequently travel to various places, if this is the case we can bring the kitten with us to wherever we’re headed and you’d only be required to pay the fees it’d cost us to take the kitten with us (food, litter, health documents, etc.), our time/labor will be free in this case. 🙂

Please refer to our DELIVERY tab for details on our next free/cheap delivery, where we’re planning to travel to, or email us for specific questions. Outside of the continental US, deliveries to Vancouver BC, Canada and Anchorage, AK will be available!

Where do you frequently deliver to?

We frequently pass through Oregon and California – so these are the places we’ll be able to deliver to most often and will be the most cost efficient if timing is right on when a litter is ready!

We are always willing to deliver straight to your home for a small fee within Washington or meet you in Vancouver BC, Canada. Just make sure to ask us ahead of time to see if we’re available! We always appreciate if you are willing to come to us instead or at least meeting us halfway.

Some other places we may consider delivering to in the future: Anchorage AK, Dallas TX, and Las Vegas NV.

Again, please refer to our DELIVERY tab for details on our next trip!

Do you rehome your retiring Kings & Queens?

Yes we do! They’re typically priced anywhere between $200 – $1000. Retired kitties are great for someone who is older and doesn’t have the time to cater to a growing kitten. They’ll be spayed/neutered prior to being rehomed and are all genetically health tested. Please reach out to us if you’re interested in opening your home to an older kitty! Our queens usually retire around 5 – 6 years of age.

BENEFITS OF GETTING A RETIRED BREEDING CAT:
Known Health History: We have tested all our breeding cats’ health, genetics, hereditary issues, and they’ll be up to date on their vaccinations.
– Established Temperament: Retired cats have fully developed personalities, so you know what you’re getting – their behavior, friendliness, and energy level are stable and predictable.
Less Training Required: They’ll already be litter-trained and know routines. They also require less supervision.
Calm Nature: Retired breeding cats have a calmer, more relaxed demeanor compared to energetic kittens.
Spayed/Neutered: We would likely already have them spayed/neutered so there wouldn’t be any surgeries or recovery times needed once they’re home with you.

Will my kitten be spayed or neutered?

No. We don’t do early spaying and neutering on our kittens. Buyers are expected to get the spaying and neutering done around 5-6 months of age per the contract.

Are your cats/cattery TICA registered?

Yes. Our cattery, kings, & queens with TICA. A few of our cats are also registered with CFA and WCF.

Do you have a waitlist?

Yes. There’s a $100 non-refundable fee to join our waitlist that’ll go towards the total cost of the kitten. Only enter our waitlist if you’re serious about purchasing a kitten from us and please consider the possible wait time. To join, just let us know via email what breed, color, coat length, gender, etc. you’d like. Our wait time for specific kittens can range from 3 months to 2 years depending on our breeding schedule and queens.

We are no longer making exceptions, once a fee has been made it is non-refundable. We also no longer offer a free notification list as it is far too difficult to manage on our end. Waitlisted buyers will operate on a first come first serve basis, everyone else will be first come first serve.

How many litters do your queens have a year?

It varies per cat and their heat cycles. Our queens have no more than 2 litters a year.

How do you take payments?

We are currently accepting deposits through Zelle, Venmo, or cash. The remaining balance is due in cash upon pickup. If you prefer to pay via Zelle/Venmo, please add an additional 2% of the total price for tax purposes. Please plan accordingly.

Will my kitten get lonely? Should I get 2 kittens?

British Shorthairs can do really well being a single cat household as they’re independent, however while we can do our best to accompany our furry friend, it will never imitate the companionship of another feline. We actually notice our Scottish kittens actually prefer a companion/playmate. Please do consider adopting another fur baby into your family if you work long hours or frequently leave your home for long periods of time. This doesn’t have to be from us, it could be from your local shelter. Successful pairings is usually 1 male and 1 female or 2 females, with exceptions of course. Just make sure to introduce them slowly and properly.

With that being said – if you are interested in buying another kitten from us, we offer a $200 discount. This applies to buyers who’s previously gotten a kitten from us as well.
